Economics as target group marketing

Comment on Matt Franko on ‘AOC Gardening’

Blog-Reference

Your critical evaluation of AOC is, of course, objectively correct: “Climate nutter thinks photosynthesis is ‘magic!’ LOL! Hey moron ever hear of: 6CO2 + 6H2O → C6H12O6 + 6O2.
Try taking a biochemistry course some time Liberal Art trained moron!!! LOL!!!! Probably withdraw failing after the second week!!! LOL Unqualified dialectic trained moron!!!!”

What you overlook, however, is that 99.9 percent of the population is born/living/dying in the Circus Maximus and has no truck whatsoever with science.

AOC cannot be taken seriously because she is a creature of the Marketing/PR department of the party apparatus designed for the new voter generation. To recall, AOC’s profile is the perfect mirror image of her predecessor Joseph Crowley (male-old-white-rich-educated). “Mr. Crowley was defeated by a 28-year-old political newcomer, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a former organizer for Bernie Sanders’s presidential campaign, who had declared it was time for generational, racial and ideological change.”#1

That Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has no idea of anything does not matter at all because neither has her target group. The Marketing/PR department sees to it that she echos what the opinion polls tell them the target group wants to hear. Politics is emotion management and has at best homeopathic reality content.

It is pretty obvious that the MMT loudspeakers apply the same marketing strategy.#2 Since Adam Smith/Karl Marx, economics has NOTHING to do with science but with political agenda pushing. Economists are NOT scientists but clowns/useful idiots in Circus Maximus.#3 MMTers are NO exception.#4

CORE: more lipstick on the dead economics pig

Comment on Bill Mitchell on ‘Paradigm shift ― not from the CORE Econ Project ― as mainstream as you will get’

Blog-Reference and Blog-Reference on Sep 18, adapted to context, and Blog-Reference on Sep 19

This is the track record of economics: provably false
• profit theory, for 200+ years,
• Walrasian microfoundations (including equilibrium), for 150+ years,
• Keynesian macrofoundations (including I=S, IS-LM), for 80+ years.
The major approaches ― Walrasianism, Keynesianism, Marxianism, Austrianism ― are mutually contradictory, axiomatically false, materially/formally inconsistent, and all got the foundational economic concepts profit and income wrong.

In science, a "distinct set of concepts or thought patterns, including theories, research methods, postulates, and standards for what constitutes legitimate contributions to a field is called a paradigm." #1 Because the four main approaches are provably false, that is, materially or/and formally inconsistent, a Paradigm Shift is an absolute necessity.

Keynes put it thus 80 years ago: “The [neo-]classical theorists resemble Euclidean geometers in a non-Euclidean world who, discovering that in experience straight lines apparently parallel often meet, rebuke the lines for not keeping straight ― as the only remedy for the unfortunate collisions which are occurring. Yet, in truth, there is no remedy except to throw over the axiom of parallels and to work out a non-Euclidean geometry. Something similar is required to-day in economics.”

In methodological terms, a Paradigm Shift is “a fundamental change in the basic concepts and experimental practices of a scientific discipline.” The Keynesian Paradigm Shift, though, failed because Keynes messed up the move from microfoundations to macrofoundations. #2 As a result, economics fell back on the Jevons/Walras/Menger paradigm. As Krugman so nicely put it, “most of what I and many others do is sorta-kinda neoclassical because it takes the maximization-and-equilibrium world as a starting point”.

The Neoclassical paradigm is defined by methodological individualism = microfoundations, which translates into the neo-Walrasian axiom set: “HC1 economic agents have preferences over outcomes; HC2 agents individually optimize subject to constraints; HC3 agent choice is manifest in interrelated markets; HC4 agents have full relevant knowledge; HC5 observable outcomes are coordinated, and must be discussed with reference to equilibrium states.” (Weintraub)

These axioms (or slight variations thereof) define the orthodox paradigm. These microfoundations are false in multiple dimensions. This is a methodological fact. By consequence, the necessary Paradigm Shift consists of fully replacing ALL variants of behavioral microfoundations by systemic macrofoundations.

As an answer to both fundamental and superficial refutation, economists talk much about New Economic Thinking, a new paradigm, and more social commitment. #3 The members of the CORE project are no exception. #4

The fact is, the new CORE textbook does NOT present the urgently needed new paradigm but the maximization-and-equilibrium world in a redesigned user-friendly format that has been worked out by the marketing and PR folks in order to satisfy the demands of the new generation of dull economics students. These students do not want economics as objective scientific truth but as an easy way to understand the narrative. The new target group does not care about the material and formal consistency of theoretical economics but about the political message of political economics.

Economics had the bad luck to start as Political Economy. This means that the political agenda had been given and the argumentation had to support the agenda. Theoretical economics (= science) had been hijacked from the very beginning by political economists (= agenda pushers).

From this false start, economics never recovered, and it developed into what Feynman called cargo cult science, which he defined as: “They’re doing everything right. The form is perfect. ... But it doesn’t work. ... So I call these things cargo cult science because they follow all the apparent precepts and forms of scientific investigation, but they’re missing something essential.”

What is missing is the true theory, with scientific truth well-defined as material and formal consistency. Economics is a failed science. The claim, as expressed in the title “Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel” is a false claim. Both orthodox and heterodox economists are cargo cult scientists. #5

Economics does not need a new marketing thinking of opportunistic orthodox and heterodox proto-scientific losers #6 but a Paradigm Shift from false Walrasian microfoundations and false Keynesian macrofoundations to the true macrofoundations. #7 Nothing less will do. The first rule of the Paradigm Shift says: If it isn’t macro-axiomatized, it isn’t economics.

The CORE textbook is NOT economics; it is cargo cult economics in a new Zeitgeist outfit. The overdue replacement of the proto-scientific textbook garbage from Samuelson to Mankiw #8 lies still in the future.

Is MMT Alt-Right? No, it is fake science

Comment on Bill Mitchell/Tom Hickey on ‘On visiting Japan and engaging with conservative politicians’*

Blog-Reference

Tom Hickey maintains: “First, there is no such thing as bad publicity. It provides exposure anyway, and name recognition (‘brand identification’) is a good thing. Secondly, on the ‘first they ignore you’ metaphor, being attacked is a forward step that acts as confirmation that you are winning. I no longer link to most criticism of MMT, first, because it is stupid, and secondly, so as not give it exposure.”

This, obviously, is NOT the language of a scientist but of a propagandist, PR/Marketing professional, or social media troll. For a scientist, the question is always whether an assertion is provably true/false. For a political agenda pusher, the question is always how many followers/likes/clicks does an assertion generate? The truth value of an assertion is not an issue for a propagandist.

The problem with economists is that they claim to do science but that they have never been anything else than clowns and useful idiots in the political Circus Maximus. The major approaches ― Walrasianism, Keynesianism, Marxianism, Austrianism ― are mutually contradictory, axiomatically false, materially/formally inconsistent and all got the foundational economic concept of profit wrong. The newcomer MMT is no exception.

Accordingly, the economic discussion has zero scientific content but is a more or less open smear. Bill Mitchell complains: “The mainstream economists and those who profess to be ‘free marketeers’ bring out their big guns pretty quickly ― inflation and socialism/ Stalinism. … More recently, those who claim to be on the ‘progressive’ side of the debate have become more vociferous in their attacks, sensing, I suspect, that MMT have supplanted their relevance as the defenders of the anti-neoliberal wisdom. These characters resort to all sorts of snide-type attacks ranging from accusations of anti-Semitism (which I have covered previously), siding with Wall Street, ‘America-first corporatist sycophants’ …, giving succour to fascists and the Alt-Right, and that sort of stuff.”

Accordingly, the philosopher Tom Hickey as chief information manipulator of the Mike Norman Blog simply filters “that sort of stuff” out as “stupid criticism” of MMT. Not only this, under the label of “stupid criticism” MMTers conveniently suppresses valid scientific refutation of MMT.

MMTers claim (i) that MMT is scientifically superior to mainstream economics, (ii) that MMT policy is for the benefit of WeThePeople, (iii) that MMTers are the real Progressives.

The fact is that all three claims are false. Like their mainstream colleagues, MMTers are too stupid for the elementary math that underlies macroeconomics. Therefore, the whole analytical superstructure of MMT is just as scientifically worthless as that of mainstream economics.

Scientifically, MMT is dead but politically it is very much alive. The MMT policy of deficit-spending/money-creation clearly benefits the Oligarchy because of the macroeconomic Profit Law’s logical implication Public Deficit = Private Profit. MMTers either do not understand the Profit Law or ignore/suppress the proof of the falsity of their sectoral balances equation which lacks the all-important balance of the business sector, i.e. profit.#1 MMTers are just as stupid/corrupt as mainstream economists as censors/ suppressors/manipulators in the econblogosphere (see #EconBlocker).

MMT is NOT Alt-Right or anything else of the usual silly smear. MMT is a relatively new political project that is driven under the mantel of Science and Progressiveness by scientifically incompetent/corrupt academics and promoted/sponsored by the Oligarchy.

It is NOT a lucky scientific event that: “Core MMT economists (and that means the original team plus those who came soon after but are prominent) are getting invitations to speak all around the world now as more and more people, organisations and government agencies are seeking to learn about MMT and its implications for them.” All this only proves that the Oligarchy has changed its marketing strategy. In personality terms, Paul Krugman’s worn-out “Conscience of a Liberal” is out and Stephanie Kelton’s “Birth of the People's Economy” is in.

In economics, the package ― or as Tom Hickey puts it the “brand identification” ― is currently changing but the product is the same since Adam Smith/Karl Marx: BS for WeThePeople.

REPLY to Matt Franko on Sep 12

You ask: “Why would you seek to hold them accountable to the scientific methodology when they never said they are doing that in the first place?”

You are mistaken. Bill Mitchell and others claim that MMT is an objective scientific lens: “MMT is not a regime that you ‘apply’ or ‘switch to’ or ‘introduce’. Rather, MMT is a lens that allows us to see the true (intrinsic) workings of the fiat monetary system. It helps us better understand the choices available to a currency-issuing government. It is not a regime but an accurate perspective on reality. It lifts the veil imposed by neo-liberal ideology and forces the real questions and choices out in the open. In that sense, MMT is neither right-wing nor left-wing ― liberal or non-liberal ― or whatever other description of value-systems that you care to deploy.” #1, #2

Because they claim to do science, MMTers have to be judged according to well-defined scientific criteria. The outcome is that they fail already at basic math.

The real progress is that in these days Wall Street sends Stephanie Kelton and Bill Mitchell to bring Japan up to speed while in the old days, they sent Commodore Perry.

Japan, not to forget, is living proof that the MMT policy of deficit-spending/money-creation works to never dreamt of levels of public debt. MMT’s message for Japan is to continue ― as they say on Wall Street ― doing God’s work.

Reverse Alchemy: from scientific gold to political shit

Comment on Barkley Rosser on ‘MbS Must Go’

Blog-Reference

The key to understanding economics is that there are TWO versions: political economics and theoretical economics. The main differences are: (i) The objective of political economics is to successfully push an agenda, and the objective of theoretical economics is to successfully explain how the actual economy works. (ii) In political economics, anything goes; in theoretical economics, the scientific standards of material and formal consistency are observed.

Theoretical economics (= science) had been hijacked from the very beginning by the agenda pushers of political economics. Political economics has NOT achieved anything of scientific value. This is the actual state of economics, provably false:
• profit theory, for 200+ years,
• microfoundations, for 150+ years,
• macrofoundations, for 80+ years,
• the application of elementary logic and mathematics since the founding fathers.

Needless to emphasize that this was not a linear process. There were always economists who were committed to the scientific standards of material/formal consistency, but in the end, political agenda-pushing retained the upper hand, and economics never got out of the proto-scientific swamp.

The vast majority of economists have been devoured by the swamp. Barkley Rosser is a case in point. His post ‘MBS Must Go’ has ZERO scientific content and is plain political agenda-pushing.

Since the founding fathers, economics violates the first rule of science, i.e., the strict separation of science and politics. #1 As a result, economics fell prey to the Reverse Alchemy of Communication, which means: If transposed from the sphere of science to the sphere of politics, every scientific idea (tentative or well-established through numerous logical and empirical cross-checks), is with absolute necessity perverted/inverted in the process.

As a failed science, economics needs a Paradigm Shift. Paradigm Shift means, in methodological terms, a change of foundational premises/axioms. Needless to emphasize, economists also perverted the concept of Paradigm Shift. Transposed from the scientific sphere to the political sphere of agenda-pushing, it now means nothing else than a change of policy.

“So how do you change paradigms? Thomas Kuhn, who wrote the seminal book about the great paradigm shifts of science, has a lot to say about that.
• You keep pointing at the anomalies and failures in the old paradigm.
• You keep speaking and acting, loudly and with assurance, from the new one.
• You insert people with the new paradigm in places of public visibility and power.
• You don’t waste time with reactionaries; rather, you work with active change agents and with the vast middle ground of people who are open-minded.” #2

Of course, these tips are the basics of marketing/public relations/rhetoric/ propaganda/ proselytizing/agenda pushing.

To this day, economists do not understand what science and a Paradigm Shift are all about. #3 Since Adam Smith/Karl Marx, they have never risen above the level of useful political idiots.

REPLY to The Economists Challenge on Oct 20

Economics is about how the economy works. Scientists, by consequence, focus their communication strictly on the diverse aspects that constitute the economy. Incompetent scientists, though, do not talk about the economy but about what Walras or Keynes has written in their books or told their students as the oral tradition of their Alma Mater, or that Walras was not a Neoliberal but had socialist leanings, or that Keynes was bisexual, and all this other irrelevant gossip. In one word, incompetent scientists do not stick to the subject matter but get almost immediately lost in meta-communication = storytelling = empty blather = propaganda = agenda pushing (e.g., Barkley Rosser’s MBS Must Go).

This explains why economists never got to the bottom of their subject matter, i.e., to the foundational concept of profit. The historical fact is that economists are too stupid for the elementary mathematics that underlies macroeconomic accounting. Because of this, one can safely forget all the rest, from supply-demand-equilibrium to DSGE and New Keynesianism.

In the end, meta-communication boils down to motive-speculation/imputation. Schumpeter has said all about this nuisance: “Remember: occasionally, it may be an interesting question to ask why a man says what he says; but whatever the answer, it does not tell us anything about whether what he says is true or false.”

The only content of a scientific debate is: Is the statement S about how the economy works true or false? With truth well-defined for 2300+ years.

So, all you (or Barkley Rosser, for that matter) say about yourself or this guy Egmont is plain talk-show BS and has NOTHING to do with the subject matter of economics. If you think the macrofounded Profit or Employment Law is false, do what a scientist is supposed to do: demonstrate that it is materially/formally inconsistent.#1 Science is about proof, politics exhausts itself in brain-dead blather and self-stylization as the savior of the nation/world/universe.

The only thing you (or Barkley Rosser, for that matter) can do for the progress of science and the welfare of humanity is to take a shovel and bury yourself at the Flat-Earth Cemetery.

Economics is dead. Supply-demand-equilibrium, Walrasianism, Keynesianism, Post-Keynesianism, DSGE, New Keynesianism, etc., are provably false.

Economics needs a Paradigm Shift from microfoundations to macrofoundations.

There is one elementary question for every economist to answer: which of the two macroeconomic balances equations is true
1 (X−M)+(G−T)+(I−Sm)−(Qm−Yd)=0
2 (X−M)+(G−T)+(I−S)=0?

You have exactly one character for an answer. To recall: “No one ignorant of elementary mathematics and true macrofoundations can be admitted to economics.”

***
REPLY to Barkley Rosser on Oct 22

You cannot answer an elementary economic question. “Both are correct” is the false answer because eq. 2 represents a zero-profit economy. There has NEVER been a zero-profit economy in the history of the world.

If simplified, eq. 2 boils down to the Keynesian I=S, and this tells everyone that macroeconomics is provably false for 80+ years and that economists ― both orthodox and heterodox economists ― are too stupid for elementary mathematics.

In your bottomless scientific incompetence, you have, of course, realized nothing in your whole academic career.

You started this thread with “MBS Must Go”. You produced NOT ONE scientifically valid sentence during the whole debate. So, it is the fake scientist, Barkley Rosser, who must go.

Take a shovel, go to the Flat-Earth-Cemetery, bury yourself, and deliver us from your brain-dead blather.

You never understood what profit is, so all you ever said about economics is senseless blather/political agenda-pushing.

You are the perfect example of a representative economist. Just like your academic colleagues, you have never produced anything of scientific value. You cannot even answer which of the two macroeconomic sectoral balances equations is true: 1 (X−M)+(G−T)+(I−Sm)−(Qm−Yd)=0 or 2 (X−M)+(G−T)+(I−S)=0.

You and The Economists Challenge could have easily avoided any effort/pain if your capability of reading/understanding was only slightly above absolute zero.

Take notice of this disclaimer: “This site does not hand out advice about how to avoid taxes, to get rich on the stock market, to be successful in business, to increase the wealth of nations, to run an economy, to maximize welfare, to prevent national/global bankruptcy, to improve the institutional setup, to get out of national/global depression, or how to save humankind or a subgroup thereof. The effective solution of economic problems and the attainment of worthwhile goals presupposes the correct economic theory, which in turn presupposes the correct axiom set, which becomes the ultimate source of accountable advice. Because of this, this site is strictly about axiomatization. Economic advice of any sort is an entirely separate matter.”#1

You have NO correct Profit Theory, but pester the world with your advice. I have the axiomatically correct Profit Theory, but give NO advice to a random imbecile who calls himself The Economist's Challenge.

This is exactly the difference between a soapbox economist and a scientist.

For MMT = For the Oligarchy

Comment on Thomas Fazi/Bill Mitchell on ‘For MMT’*

Blog-Reference

Thomas Fazi/Bill Mitchell observe: “More surprising is the fact that MMT has also been the subject of fierce criticism by left-wing economists and commentators, such as Doug Henwood and Paul Mason. In the last year or so, the critiques of MMT have accelerated as its public profile has risen, partly due to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s promotion of the theory in relation to her endorsement of a ‘Green New Deal’ (GND). This was to be expected: MMT not only threatens powerful vested interests in our societies, but also challenges the hegemony of mainstream macroeconomists who have been able to dominate the policy debate for decades using a series of linked myths about how our fiat monetary system operates and the capacities of currency-issuing governments within such a system.”

This is a case of either self-delusion or political fraud.

MMT does NOT threaten “powerful vested interests”, the MMT policy of deficit-spending/ money-creation clearly benefits the Oligarchy because it increases macroeconomic profit according to the Profit Law, which entails Public Deficit = Private Profit. Thus, the Oligarchy’s financial wealth and public debt (currently $22 trillion) grow in lockstep. The so-called free-market economy has already been on the full life support of the State for a long time. #1

What MMT actually does is to put a social/green label on the public debt, which has hitherto been accumulated mainly with military deficit spending. To put social/environmental deficit-spending on top of military deficit-spending does NOT threaten vested interests but is the best thing that can happen to the Oligarchy.

What MMT actually does is to discredit/undermine the parties that have stood for more than a century for the interests of the working class. What Thomas Fazi/Bill Mitchell and other MMTers actually attempt is to drive a wedge between leadership and membership of the traditional Left by questioning economic competence:

• “But when they [criticisms of MMT] come out of Social Democratic or Labour political machines, one realises that these economic spokespeople actually believe in the causalities that the mainstream macroeconomics framework asserts.” … “And then they wonder why they lose elections.”
• “MMT gives us the power to imagine truly transformational politics, without getting caught up in meaningless debates about whether we can ‘afford’ it or not. This is also why it is being attacked so fiercely. Not because of its theoretical foundations, but because of the range of economic and political possibilities that it opens up. The bottom line, however, is that MMT is here to stay. The Labour Party can choose to stick to an old neoliberal fiscal paradigm ― or it can join the revolution.”

MMT has zero scientific content, MMTers are scientifically incompetent, #2 MMT is refuted on all counts, #3 MMT policy guidance is political fraud in the interest of the Oligarchy. #4

The idea that creatures of polit-marketing like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and academic trolls like Thomas Fazi/Bill Mitchell are spearheading the revolutionary overthrow of vested interest is the latest joke in the ongoing reality show.

How Stephanie Kelton brain-washes a lovely young English girl

Comment on Planet Money on ‘Episode 866: Modern Monetary Theory’

Blog-Reference

Marketing folks are not very innovative. One of the oldest sales gimmicks is baby-kissing and, true enough, it still works.#1 Babys/children are an unfailing Pavlovian trigger for an emotion-addicted audience.

The very characteristic of science is that it never appeals to emotions but to knowledge/ logic/facts. Political agenda pushers, on the other hand, avoid knowledge/logic/facts like the plague and appeal straightforwardly to emotions. So do fraudsters.

MMT is a scientific fraud and meanwhile, it has reached the lowest level: “This is really nice, it’s a podcast where a lovely young English girl asks about MMT and Stephanie Kelton and the Planet Money team answer her question. It’s for beginners, but what lovely way to chill for half an hour. It was delightful! They described Stephanie Kelton as left-wing economist. She’s lovely too!”

So much for the psycho framing. Now comes the fraud: “Some ideas seem too good to be true. Like this one. It comes from a 13-year-old listener named Amy. She says she knows the government has trouble finding enough money to pay for stuff like schools and hospitals. And she wondered if it has considered just printing more money. She asked us: Can the government do that? Just make more money to pay for stuff? Fiscal hawks say, ‘no way!’ We’d have crazy inflation! But there’s a group of economists that says, ‘yes, we can create way more money, without disaster. And pay for lots of stuff we want.’ They are the proponents of what’s called Modern Monetary Theory, or MMT. Their ideas are getting out there, they have the memes to prove it.”

Let’s move on from Barbie land to reality. MMT is proto-scientific garbage. MMT is refuted on all counts. MMTers are stupid/corrupt agenda pushers for the Oligarchy. #2, #3, #4, #5 The emotional vomit proof for non-economists is in the ridiculous Amy story.

Stephanie Kelton and the self-destructive stupidity of the super-rich

Comment on Stephanie Kelton on ‘The Wealthy Are Victims of Their Own Propaganda ― To escape higher taxes, they must embrace deficits.’*

Blog-Reference and Blog-Reference

Stephanie Kelton is desperate:
  • For years now, MMTers propose deficit-spending/money-creation as the key policy instrument for the solution of any social/economic problem
  • Because of the macroeconomic Profit Law, it holds Public Deficit = Private Profit#1
  • Clearly, MMT policy is a permanent free lunch for the Oligarchy
  • The fabulous wealth of the Oligarchy is the mirror image of the fabulous public debt ($21.5 trillion).#2
  • Part of the free-lunch profit is invested in government bonds and generates ultra-safe interest income, which is taxed from WeThePeople, for an indefinite time
  • MMTers argue consistently against taxing the rich#3
  • MMTers deceive WeThePeople about the distributional effects of MMT policy#4
  • MMT academics corrupt science on a daily basis by violating well-defined standards.#5
No one has done more for the super-rich than MMTers. But then comes a super-rich imbecile and ruins everything: “To be blunt, the super-rich have become victims of their own successful marketing campaign. Conservative billionaires like Pete Peterson spent decades complaining about debt and deficits, putting enormous sums of money into a PR campaign to turn politicians and the public against deficit spending.”#6

You say: “Every public dollar spent becomes a private dollar in savings. This isn’t even MMT, it’s just basic macroeconomics.”

No! Basic macro says Public Deficit = Private Profit. Do your macroeconomic homework. See
The Kelton-Fraud.

Because of the macroeconomic Profit Law, i.e. Public Deficit = Private Profit, MMT benefits the Oligarchy and NOT WeThePeople. See MMT: A free lunch for the Oligarchy.

Take notice that MMT is refuted on all counts according to the scientific criteria of material/formal consistency.

For details see cross-references MMT.

REPLY to JuHoansi on Feb 6

As you can easily see, the foundational MMT sectoral balances equation (I−S)+(G−T)+(X−M)=0 is logically/mathematically defective. Because of this, the whole of MMT is scientifically worthless.

The point is NOT who says what but whether is it provably true, i.e. materially and formally consistent.

What MMT is saying to WeThePeople is the same as what the counterfeiter says to his wife pointing to his printer: I can buy you everything you ever want. Technically this is possible, of course, but economically it is a fraud. See

Why do you permanently try to sidetrack the fact that MMT is a political fraud?

Which of the two macroeconomic sectoral balances equations is true?

a ► (I−S)+(G−T)+(X−M)=0
b ► (I−S)+(G−T)+(X−M)−(Q−Yd)=0

If you cannot answer this simple question you are out of economics.

Those equations tell everybody that Public Deficit = Private Profit, that MMT is a free lunch program for the Oligarchy, and that fabulous financial wealth in the US is equal to fabulous public debt (22 trillion).

That a counterfeit money producer cannot go bankrupt is a rather trivial revelation. The fact is that MMT is a political fraud that hurts WeThePeople big time.

MMTers are either stupid or corrupt or both.

No one with more than two brain cells takes seriously what politicians, billionaires, MMTers, or Stephanie Kelton blather about budget deficits.

Stephanie Kelton says “… the government’s ‘red ink’ becomes our ‘black ink”. The fact is instead Public Deficit = Private Profit. You say “Kelton helps the poor”. The fact is, Kelton provides a free lunch for the Oligarchy.#1

MMT is bad theory, MMT is bad policy, MMTers are bad people.

MMT ― now official doctrine

Comment on Tom Hickey on ‘A Job Guarantee Costs Far Less Than Unemployment, Pavlina Tcherneva’

Blog-Reference

It has always been clear that MMT is NOT a scientifically valid economic theory but political propaganda for the benefit of the one-percenters.#1 However, MMTers always claimed that their heroic fight was for the benefit of WeThePeople. Tom Hickey, the MMT philosopher, made it quite clear that his mental grandfather was Karl Marx. Same for Bill Mitchell, the MMT chief ideologist.

MMTers placed themselves firmly in the Progressive camp and demonstratively gathered behind the signboard of the Job Guarantee. That’s pro-labor and anti-capitalist, right? Yes, but only for people who have been trained since childhood to believe any crap.

Tom Hickey is very happy to announce that MMT colleague Pavlina Tcherneva is now on Foreign Affairs: “MMT is making it to the top of the list after having been marginalized for decades. Is the elite getting concerned? This is a superb article, and it is addressed to the ruling elite, which is the audience of this venue.”

What is Foreign Affairs? Tom Hickey cites Wikipedia: “Foreign Affairs is an American magazine of international relations and U.S. foreign policy published by the Council on Foreign Relations, a nonprofit, nonpartisan, membership organization and think tank specializing in U.S. foreign policy and international affairs.”

In other words, Foreign Affairs tells the Oligarchy's underlings all over the world what the grand policy outline is. The new strategy in order to save the system is deficit-spending/ money-creation. And this is why MMT and its apostles are currently hyped across all media. Stephanie Kelton is No. 1 on the NYT bestseller list, and Pavlina Tcherneva is in Foreign Affairs. And the Marx pupil Tom Hickey applauds until he runs out of oxygen behind his mask.

Gentle reminder: the MMT policy of deficit-spending/money-creation is NOT and NEVER has been for the benefit of WeThePeople. MMT is the issuance of counterfeit currency in the form of deficit spending/money creation for the benefit of the one-percenters. Because PublicDeficit = PrivateProfit, MMT is the biggest redistribution program ever.#2 MMT is and always has been a political fraud.

That MMT is now promoted by Foreign Affairs is proof of it.

Economics is not an ordinary science but sciences: “Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel.”

Or, the classical definition: “Economics is the science which studies human behavior as a relationship between ends and scarce means which have alternative uses.” (Robbins)

Because the science claim is provably false, #1 economists are, in fact, fraudsters.

When the folks of the social sciences cannot do real science for some spurious methodological reasons #1, that’s no problem. They can do talk shows or polit-marketing or comedy, or social media trolling. What they cannot do is to claim that whatever they do is science and to award themselves Nobel prizes. They can award themselves Oscars for the funniest financial hoax and such things.

There are some minimum requirements for science. One is to realize in seconds, not in years, that 2+2=5 is false. Or, for that matter, that the Keynesian I=S is false. #2 MMTers do not satisfy these requirements. They still don’t get the macroeconomic balances right. #3 That is, they fail at elementary algebra. There is NO methodological excuse for that, ever.

There are also some ethical requirements for science. The first and foremost is not to lie and not to cheat. Another is not to manipulate the communication. MMTers are big-time #EconBlocker, and that is the unassailable proof that they are not scientists but political crooks.

MMT is hyped at the moment because the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time has to be sold as an employment program and academically blessed.

People trust science. What they don’t know is that economics in general and MMT, in particular, is fake science. #4

You say “Arguing over what "science" is or what counts as "scientific" is philosophy of science and there is no general agreement on criteria for this terms.”

Yes, but there is a general agreement that 2+2=5 is false. And more agreement is not needed.

The foundational MMT sectoral balances equation is algebraically false. #1 And this settles the matter already. Because the foundational economic concept of profit is false, the whole theoretical superstructure is false. Because of this, MMT policy guidance has no sound scientific foundations. The only open question is whether MMTers are too stupid for science or whether they abuse the prestige of science for political agenda pushing.

This question is answered by the appearance of MMT’s Pavlina Tcherneva on Foreign Affairs. Roughly speaking, Foreign Affairs is for the Capitalist Party what Pravda has been for the Communist Party. Foreign Affairs is the mouthpiece of the CFR. And everybody knows since Carroll Quigley’s Tragedy and Hope that the CFR and its forerunners had the interests of the Oligarchy on their mind and not so much the interests of WeThePeople.

The appearance of Pavlina Tcherneva on Foreign Affairs is a message from the Central Committee of Capitalism to economists worldwide to make up their minds and to support the current policy of deficit spending/money creation, which is the last instrument to mitigate the accelerated breakdown of the system.

Of course, MMTers are free to fight for the survival of Capitalism, but it is utter corruption to pretend that this is science.

You say: “The foundational MMT sectoral balances equation is an accounting identity. Are you disputing that?”

Not at all. The crucial point is that I have given the unassailable proof that MMTers have messed up the foundational macroeconomic accounting identity. See
Wikipedia, economics, scientific knowledge, or political agenda pushing?
Section ‘Exemplary proof of the inconsistency of economics’ and Sub-sections ‘Provably false Keynes/MMT’.

Everyone with basic mathematical skills can immediately check the proof.

So, MMT is disproved at the elementary level. Meaning, MMT is scientifically worthless. Meaning, MMT is brain-dead political agenda pushing to the advantage of the Oligarchy and to the disadvantage of WeThePeople.

And this is exactly why MMT is promoted by Foreign Affairs.

Pretty straightforward, indeed.

Bill Mitchell's Blog May 4 The macroeconomic narrative continues to evolve; the game is not yet over.

Bill Mitchell's Blog Mai 25 MMT is the new doctrine, but there are some folks who still maintain that public deficit/debt is bad for WeThePeople

"Don’t say its over until its over ― MMT is not close to dominating the narrative

Don’t say its over until its over. There has been progress in the macroeconomics narrative since the GFC, which accelerated during the pandemic. Governments have certainly expanded fiscal deficits and taken on more debt, and the usual hysteria, which many of those same governments helped to ferment in the public debate, has fallen away. Obviously, for political reasons, a government that has previously been terrorising the population about the dangers of deficits and rising debt as a cover for ideologically-driven austerity programs, has no incentive in continuing those narratives while they have been dragged into maintaining capitalism on life support."

Note that the words profit or distribution do NOT appear once in the whole article.
